Tony Esposito, born in Naples on July 15, 1950, is a renowned Italian musician, singer-songwriter, and percussionist celebrated for his music that blends global sounds, tribal rhythms, and the melodies of Neapolitan tradition. Known for his creativity, he invented unique instruments like the tamborder and achieved international fame with hits such as Kalimba de Luna, which was also covered by Boney M.
During the 1970s, Esposito collaborated with leading Italian and international artists, contributing significantly to the Napoli Power movement—a musical fusion of blues, jazz, funk, and ethnic sounds. His breakthrough came in the 1980s with hits like Kalimba de Luna and As tu às, which sold millions of copies and earned him numerous accolades.
Esposito participated in the Sanremo Music Festival three times and received prestigious awards, including the Nastro d’Argento for film soundtracks. Over his career, he has worked with international stars such as Gilberto Gil and Don Cherry and performed at major events like Rock in Rio.
In the 2000s, following a period focused on live concerts, he released the album Viaggio Tribale. More recently, his 2016 single Luna e Sole (No al razzismo sì alla pace), produced with Luca Maris, achieved significant success in Italy and abroad, climbing the charts and garnering millions of views.
In 2022, Esposito released the Spanish-language single Inès, which was broadcast across Latin America. He continues his international musical journey, with hits like Luna e Sole also gaining airplay in Africa.
