Incognito

Incognito is a British musical group, considered among the pioneers of the acid jazz genre. The leader, Jean-Paul "Bluey" Maunick, is the only member to have remained consistently active within the band. Over the years, various saxophonists, bassists, drummers, and vocalists have come and gone. The story of Incognito began in 1980 when Jean-Paul "Bluey" Maunick, a British musician originally from Mauritius, and Paul "Tubbs" Williams formed the group. In 1981, they released their first album titled Jazz Funk. After their debut, there was a long period of silence.

In 1989, a pivotal moment for the band occurred: British DJ Gilles Peterson created the Talkin' Loud record label, giving Incognito the opportunity to develop a new musical genre, acid jazz, of which they remain some of the most authoritative representatives in the world. In 1991, with the album Inside Life, and in 1992 with the following album Tribes, Vibes + Scribes, the band gained international recognition, thanks in part to their cover of Stevie Wonder’s Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing.

In the years that followed, the band, known for the continuous change of its members, produced numerous studio albums and embarked on a series of successful world tours. In 2010, the album Transatlantic R.P.M. was released, featuring collaborations with Al McKay, the famous guitarist from Earth, Wind & Fire, as well as Chaka Khan, Leon Ware, and Mario Biondi. Two years later, in 2012, the group released the album Surreal, with Bluey collaborating with German singer and songwriter Mo Brandis and the new female vocalist, Na.
